Students Apartments
Milano, MI
The project idea was to create a filter area that is a connection point
between the two parts of the neighborhood, one more degraded and
one more comfortable.
In the project this is foreseen both from a volumetric point of view and
from a functional point of view.
Another decision was to interrupt the linearity of viale Tunisia only in the
area in front of the project buildings, where this strong horizontal
connection between the project area and the square that opens in front
of it prevails, also through the insertion of a continuous pavement.
One of the questions posed is how to mitigate the problem of social
decay in the area, especially in the evening hours.
For this reason, public functions have been inserted on the ground floor,
which are related to the neighborhood, but which can also be used at
night.
The solution was to create exhibition and work spaces, motivated by
the presence of different faculties with this address in the surrounding
area.
One issue taken into consideration the high rents in Milan, expecially for
the students.
Particular attention was paid to the creation of common residences and
study spaces. The key point of the whole design process turns out to
be the permeability of the soil in relation to the evident problem of the
social situation.
This concept materializes in a flooring that unifies the area and is
summarized in the internal courtyard also studied from the point of view
of lighting, which becomes a courtyard experienced not only by those
who live in the residence, but is open to all the inhabitants of the city.
One of the typologies within the two student buildings is the Duplex.
These particular typology of apartments have been created for
socialization and greater savings in the very small dimensions of the city
of Milan.
Greater importance has been given to common areas such as the dining
room, the living room and the large terrace for sharing collective
spaces.
Co-working spaces have been inserted inside the student residences, to
allow for the conviviality and socialization of the residents.
They are large spaces that play a major role within the project idea, also
given the proximity of several universities in the area, with large spaces
used for study, double-height ceilings and large windows to let the light
filter into the room.
